Jessica Hernandez (Ch’orti’, Zapotec, Yucateco Maya)
Jessica is currently a masters candidate at the University of Washington for the School of Marine and Environmental Affairs and starting her PhD in the School Environmental and Forest Sciences. Jessica’s masters thesis, Decolonizing Ocean Conservation and Planning: A Model for Indigenous Community-Based Marine Sanctuaries and Reserves is based on the case studies of Palau and Haida Gwaii. She is a teaching assistant for the School of Environmental and Forest Sciences and the American Indian Studies Department. Jessica is the founder of Kaknab and co-founder of the Jaws and Paws Foundation and serves as the graduate student mentor and community leader for the Indigenous Education Institute, the Lummi Youth Academy, the UW Society for the Advancement of Native Americans and Chicanos in the Sciences (SACNAS) and the Native Organization of Indigenous Scholars (NOIS). **For more information please visit: www.jessicabhernandez.com.

Scott Pinkham (Nez Perce)
Scott leads the Minority Scholars Engineering Program for the College of Engineering Student Academic Services at the University of Washington. He has been with the College of Engineering since 1999 and the UW since 1995. He is also a part-time lecturer for American Indian Studies where he teaches classes on Contemporary Indian Experience and Powwow: Traditions and Innovations. Scott has a BS in Mathematics and completed master’s course work in Educational Leadership and Policies Studies at the UW.
